About

Meet Emily
Hi there! I'm Emily. I'm a person first, and a therapist second. When I step into the therapy room I bring with me my extensive therapeutic knowledge and training, but I also bring my most authentic self: the parts of me that have sat in your chair and done my own work, my unique experiences as a neurodiverse, queer woman and a parent, and my genuine desire to know and understand the person sitting in front of me.

I have been in practice for 10 years, after obtaining my Bachelors of Social Work from McMaster University, my Master of Social Work from York University, and a Concurrent Disorders Certification from the University of Toronto. I have post-graduate training in a variety of psychotherapies, most recently having completed my EMDR Level 1 & 2. Ongoing learning, professional development and regular clinical supervision for my practice are commitments I make to myself and my clients.

I have a unique array of experience from working in corrections and youth/adult homelessness, to intensive family therapy and the long term treatment of complex issues in children and youth. I am particularly passionate about navigating areas including familial estrangement, self-worth/self-esteem issues, significant transitions, living as our most authentic selves, and the treatment of trauma, both single-episode, and repeated, chronic trauma.

What you can expect from me is a passion for helping you explore and embrace all the parts of yourself and learning how to be present with what happens within your body. I focus on connecting with the present moment, building your capacity to be with your more difficult experiences/emotions and stepping beyond simply coping or managing. I am far less interested in the logical, rational sides of you, but rather the deep, embodied experiences your body hold and through accessing your ability to be present in these experiences, ultimately transform them entirely.
While I integrate a variety of talk therapies, I have a strong preference to work with bottom up therapies such as EMDR, parts work, and somatic/polyvagal approaches as I am a strong believer in the mind-body connection and holistic psychotherapy. More on my therapeutic modalities can be found here.

When I am not at work, you can find me chasing after my daughter, cuddling our cat, cooking and singing in the kitchen, or turning my face towards the sunshine. I am an avid reader (ahem, audiobook listener!), comic book fan, video game player, and amateur writer. As an ADHDer, I am always looking for new experiences and adventures and aside from learning about the areas that bring you to therapy, I truly can't wait to hear about your own special interests and the things you love most!
I know this first step can feel immensely vulnerable, so thank you for trusting me. I look forward to meeting you soon.
Meet The Core Values
Next Chapter Psychotherapy is grounded in a set of core values I seek to embody in my practice, my personal belief system, and every moment of the way as we set off on the work together.

Authenticity
Curiosity
Security
Autonomy
Equity
Inclusion
Growth

My commitment to you is to put these values into action throughout our journey together. I invite you to come as you are, take what you need, and leave an even more authentic, connected version of yourself.

Meet The Virtual Clinic
Next Chapter Psychotherapy was founded with a vision: a warm, inviting office space, a group of like-minded therapists and a teaching clinic where we can focus on innovation, growth and community.

As I knows well, every vision starts with a first sentence, on the first page. Mine sounds like this... an independent therapist focused on relational trauma therapy in a virtual clinic setting.

Virtual therapy presents both unique experiences and unique challenges, requiring us to make additional considerations for safety and comfort, adaptations to the work on occasion, and acknowledging the realities of inviting a therapist into your private, inner world in a different way.

In our virtual space, we will work together to create a collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship that fosters healing, growth and change for the future.
