Benefits of Virtual Psychotherapy

Safety

As an alternative to in-person therapy, virtual services offer the safety and security of your own home environment. We invite you to create safety in whatever ways feel right for you. Shut the door, grab your coziest blanket, and show up exactly as you would like to.

Transferrable Skills

When the world went virtual, evidence began pouring out on transferrable virtual services. Even therapy like EMDR, which relies on dual awareness stimulation via eye movements or auditory/tactile stimulation, is extremely adaptable online.

Accessibility

Life can be busy and demanding, and you deserve to carve out this time for yourself. Let me support you through a 1 - 1.5hr appointment with no commute, no parking, and during the evening hours or on the weekend. Therapy doesn't have to be a scheduling nightmare!

One chapter does not define your whole story

From our earliest experience we begin creating a narrative about every aspect of our world, including the way we learn to see ourselves and others. Sometimes these are beautiful stories of strength, resiliency, and hope for the future, and at other times, things get stuck. The voice in our head turns sour and critical. We question why we aren't enough. Why things don't work out for us. Why everything feels so much harder than it should.

At Next Chapter Psychotherapy, the focus is on ensuring you feel seen, heard and understood as you begin authoring the next chapter of your life. I recognize that current stressors, pain from the past, and fears for the future require time, empathy and safety to address and resolve. I seek to offer you an approach that is grounded in relational, trauma-focused therapy, acknowledging that trauma isn't just the big, awful moments, but is also present in the small, quiet moments when we don't feel seen, heard, acknowledged, good enough, or valued. My use of somatic, bottom-up therapies takes the work beyond what we can comprehend with our rational brains, and seeks to explore the mind-body connection to create an embodied sense of healing.

My ultimate goal is to focus on building safety, connection and collaboration to foster your understanding of what healing, recovery, growth and/or re-processing is and work towards closing this painful chapter so you can venture forth into the next one in a more present, grounded place.

You aren't meant to struggle alone. It would be my honor to bear witness to your story.

Land Acknowledgement
At Next Chapter Psychotherapy, we deeply honour the land on which we live and work. We acknowledge that our practice is situated on the shared traditional lands of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabeg, who have been stewards to this land for countless generations, protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement.

We recognize the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization, and the direct harm that the social work profession has caused; including but not limited to participation in the Indian Residential School System and the 60s Scoop (the large scale removal of Indigenous children from their homes, families and communities, facilitated by social workers in the child welfare system).

This acknowledgement is a step towards honouring the resilience, wisdom and sovereignty of Indigenous peoples, and a commitment to approach our work with humility, respect and a commitment to justice and reconciliation. This acknowledgement also serves as a commitment to enacting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action into practice.

Let this land acknowledgement serve as an invitation to reflect, learn, and take meaningful action in supporting Indigenous communities across Canada.
